Brigada Pagbasa Program is a national reading movement. That aims to bring all education champions and supporters to contribute to nation-building by helping all Filipino children enhance their reading skills through partnership. This is to support, the Department of Education’s goal to uplift literacy among Filipino Learners. It is a leadership initiative that aims to support existing enrichment and remediation activities led by DepEd. It also serves as social accountability platform that encourages community participation and accountability by ensuring that every member of the community is aware of their role in our children’s education. The tagline, Sama-Sama, tulong-tulong sa pagtaguyod ng kultura sa Pagbasa was coined to highlight the importance of promoting reading culture in the community.

           Sampaloc Site II Elementary implements the said program. Mrs. Venus A. Panginaco, School Reading Coordinator, and Ms. Sarah Jane T. Torzar Brigada Eskwela Coordinator together with the ever-supportive principal, Mrs. Maria Cristina N. Balbaboco initiated and lead the school-based Brigada Pagbasa. The program was supported by external partners and stakeholders based on the competencies and available resources they have. Some partners were composed of Sampaloc Site II Elementary School Teachers, teacher applicants, education graduates, alumni, parents, and SPTA Officers sign-up as volunteer tutors.

           After the thorough implementation of Brigada Pagbasa, Sampaloc Site II Elementary School won First Place as Best Implementer of Brigada Pagbasa in Partnership with Brigada Eskwela (Filipino Category). This was another triumph and success of the school. Congratulations! (Jinky R. Tomas)
