The Department of Education was established through the Education Decree of 1863 as the Superior Commission of Primary Instruction under a Chairman. The Education agency underwent many reorganization efforts in the 20th century to better define its purpose vis-a-vis the changing administrations and charters. The present-day Department of Education was eventually mandated through Republic Act 9155, otherwise known as the Governance of Basic Education act of 2001 which establishes the mandate of this agency.

The Department of Education (DepEd) formulates, implements, and coordinates policies, plans, programs, and projects in the areas of formal and non-formal basic education. It supervises all elementary and secondary education institutions, including alternative learning systems, both public and private; and provides for the establishment and maintenance of a complete, adequate, and integrated system of basic education relevant to the goals of national development.

BEST PRACTICES IN GRADE VI (IN DISTANCE LEARNING)

I. Description

Distance learning and its relationship to emerging computer technologies have together offered many promises to the field of education. In practice however, the combination often falls short of what it attempts to accomplish. Some of the shortcomings are due to problems with the technology; others have more to do with administration, instructional methods, or pupils. Despite the problems, the Grade 6 teachers look on the brighter side on how to reach out parents and pupils despite of the situation.Students need to self-motivate in order to actually get the work done, especially in systems that don’t require them to be present in some specific time or place. We also need to be better organized with contingencies. In certain cases, however, distance learning is not just required but the best possible option.

III. Conclusion

As we enter a new era of both remote work, and now distance learning, there are new opportunities to keep students even more engaged. As a teacher, we can do so by mixing traditional teaching methods with the combination of education tools and technology.  The result is a rich learning environment that keeps young and adult distance learners on their toes.
