The Department of Education was established through the Education Decree of 1863 as the Superior Commission of Primary Instruction under a Chairman. The Education agency underwent many reorganization efforts in the 20th century to better define its purpose vis-a-vis the changing administrations and charters. The present-day Department of Education was eventually mandated through Republic Act 9155, otherwise known as the Governance of Basic Education act of 2001 which establishes the mandate of this agency.
The Department of Education (DepEd) formulates, implements, and coordinates policies, plans, programs, and projects in the areas of formal and non-formal basic education. It supervises all elementary and secondary education institutions, including alternative learning systems, both public and private; and provides for the establishment and maintenance of a complete, adequate, and integrated system of basic education relevant to the goals of national development.
TEAM IKALIMA IN ACTION AMIDST PANDEMIC
Despite the overwhelming consequences of the pandemic, this global crisis has also been an extraordinary time for learning. Thus, Grade Five teachers make sure that learners will still receive the quality education they need. We believe that despite this pandemic, learners must continue to learn and grow.
To ensure the continuity of learning, we came up with flexible and best practices to monitor and guide learners while learning in these trying times. One of these is consistent communication with learners and their parents through various platforms like phone calls or text messages and other social media to keep them posted on all the happenings that concern them and monitor their progress. Through this, we also encourage learners to ask questions or additional information and share their idea too. Messenger group is also created for parents and learners to have class-related discussions or welcome them for a private chat regarding their performance. Learners who do not have internet access do not need to worry. We find ways to keep them updated and to make sure that they are not left behind. Another one is by conducting Online Classes weekly and Virtual Kumustahan via Google Meet. Through this, we could help those learners who have online access to understand better the lessons they find difficult.
In addition to this, we highly encourage our learners to be involved in different activities to help them gain knowledge not just for their academic achievement but also for their personal growth and enjoyment.
